Why Trust Us
10+ Years on the Floor
Our editors are active tattoo artists. We know what healed work looks like - not just what looks good in a fresh photo.
We Rank by Healed Work
Not Instagram followers. Not price. The only thing that matters is what the tattoo looks like six months later.
The List We Wish Existed
We read every review, studied every portfolio, and only list shops we'd personally recommend to someone we care about.
"A good tattoo shop will tell you what they can't do. A great one will tell you who can do it better."
Not sure where to start? We'll find your perfect match.
For Visitors
Best options for same-day tattoos: Black Orchid, Tramp Art, Kustom Hustle, and Resurrection Ink all actively take walk-ins. Call ahead when possible. Mid-week mornings are the least busy. Avoid Friday–Saturday afternoon without an appointment.
For realism or fine line: Good Fortune or Red Ocean. For bold American traditional: Kustom Hustle. For neotraditional or pop culture: Resurrection Ink. For diversity of styles under one roof: Tramp Art Studios. For all-round reliability: Black Orchid.
Staying downtown near the squares? Kustom Hustle (MLK Blvd) and Red Ocean (President St) are both walkable from most hotels. If you have a car, Victory Drive has both Black Orchid and Tramp Art within a few blocks of each other.
Most shops require a $50–$100 deposit for custom work. Simple flash designs can often be done walk-in same day. Prices are not quoted over the phone at most studios - you'll get an estimate in person. Bring cash as backup even if cards are accepted.
If you're getting tattooed near the end of a trip, protect fresh work from sun and saltwater. Savannah's humidity can affect healing. Ask your artist for travel-specific aftercare instructions - most shops can recommend where to get supplies nearby.
Savannah's art school culture (SCAD) means many local artists have formal fine arts training on top of their tattoo apprenticeships. This shows in composition and design quality. The city punches above its weight for tattoo talent relative to its size.
